The Banyabindi community one of the three constitutional recognized ethnic groups in kasese have declared to rally behind opposition candidates of Forum for democratic change and go forward for the president and all other electoral levels.
In a press release on 12 December 2015 signed by their chairperson for Lobbying and advocacy Mr. Gumisisriza Christopher and Francis Kamuhanda Adyeri, the banyabindi noted that they have been supporting the NRM and President Museveni Overwhelmingly but have reaped nothing from its government despite of several demands and empty promises.

The press release further stated that they have filed sacks and tones of notices to the government about their being landless and overstaying in Internally displaced camps like refugees since 1950’s but the government has since been settling the Bakonzo who instead greed their land.

“We the banyabindi community in Uganda for a long time have been loyal to the ruling NRM party and president Museveni in particular since 1986. Following continuous correspondences to various government offices on issues that have affected our community and particular as regards displacement from our ancestral land since 1950s have in our general assembly meeting held at Muhokya today 12 December 2015 resolved to rally all our support to Opposition presidential.

Candidates during the forthcoming general elections of next year and all other opposition politicians in kasese and other parts of the country,” The release partly reads.

It further stated that for the country to have visionary leaders Ugandans should vote wisely on Opposition candidates.
“We would also like to call upon Ugandans to vote for opposition candidates only so as to have visionary leaders for this country who will respect the rights of the minority, promote peaceful transition of leadership and development for all Ugandans,” It read.

While in an interview with this reporter the Chairperson Banyabindi Cultural Development Trust Augustine Byabashaija revealed that the leaders have already received over 1,000 NRM yellow cards which they want to handover to their presidential candidate of their Choice the day he visits kasese.

Birungi Francis Adyeri a Munyabindi said that the leaders should also not shy away from mentioning the candidate to support but none other than FDC’s doctor Kiiza Besigye who is expected in kasese on Friday.

In September this year the six minority ethnic groups in kasese including the Basongora, Banyabindi, Bakingwe, Bagabo, Banyagwaki and Banyanyanja had resolved in ameeting held at katunguru trading centre to boyccot the forthcoming elections at all levels.

However, only Muzamilu Bisanga Kigyere the councilor representing lake Katwe sub county in kasese district a three leaders of Banyabindi majority participated and voted in secrecy though never participated to be voted.
